Tulum-Inspired Baby Shower

Recently I was asked to style a Baby Shower for a sweet mama that loves the beach. I wanted to incorporate her love of the relaxing seaside into her party, while making sure to keep it stylish, so I decided to do a Tulum-inspired theme. Tulum is a Mexican beach town with a bohemian chic style, so I went with very earthy colors and textures with a touch of pink, since she is having a baby girl. Being in Austin, Texas, we are a bit far from a Caribbean beach, but we set the party up poolside for a resort-like feel. My goal was to take all of the stress out of party planning, and let her and her guests sit back and enjoy a laidback celebration. All her friends came together to celebrate her, and had a great time! Read on to see how I set this sweet Baby Shower up.

Set the Scene

First, I set up giant marquee letters from Alphalit by the pool, spelling out “Baby”. There is no mistaking what this celebration is for! I decorated one side of the letters with a bubbly balloon bundle in soft pink, peach, and white.

Food Area

I set the food up inside, but wanted to make sure the food area was just as stylish as the rest of the party. No boring buffets here! I used a variety of natural baskets, stands, and placemats to hold modern white serving ware. A copper frame and gold utensils added more warmth and elegance to the area.

To label the food (we had a fajita bar - perfect for a Mexico-inspired celebration!), we used white tiles with soft gray script writing, and set them in clear acrylic stands. They blended with the serving ware enough to not be obtrusive, but made sure everyone knew what was what.

To add more beachy style to the food station, MINT created floral arrangements with soft florals, mosses, and dried palms and grasses. They were placed at various heights to add dimension.

Some of the natural elements from the floral arrangements were echoed in the gorgeous stenciled drip cake from Keep it Sweet ATX.

Drink Station

The drinks were set up at an outdoor bar by the pool (how resort vacation does that feel?!). I used another copper frame to highlight the area, this time draped with flowy pink fabric and some netting to add the ocean element.

I covered the table with dried palms and ocean accoutrements, and placed drinking glasses on an elegant stand in the middle of the bar. On each end of the bar, I placed floral arrangements in pink vases.

I used textured white tubs to hold a variety of drinks and juices, and a couple of rustic drink dispensers to hold refreshing peach mango tea and strawberry watermelon mint water.

Underneath the bar I added some beach basket props, filled with netting, pink and white fabric, florals, and larger dried palms.

Table and Seating

In order to keep with the beachy picnic feel, we set up a low-to-the-ground table on a natural jute rug near the pool. A variety of pillows and poufs were placed on the ground for comfortable relaxed seating.

The table was a warm white color, to which I added some draped fabric in the party’s color scheme. I braided the ends of the fabrics on either end for a more decorative look. Then I covered the fabric on the table with floral arrangements, dried palms, and more beach items.

For place settings, I used natural woven hand fans as place mats. Then, we added white plates to each setting that complemented the white serving ware.

I just love the relaxed yet sophisticated feel of this Tulum beach-inspired baby shower, and I loved creating it for the mama-to-be and her friends.
